Radiation Detector
The D-Pace radiation detector is a compact, simple, and reliable gamma radiation detector consisting of a large area photodiode and a dual op-amp circuit sensitive only to radiation sources immediately in front of the photodiode. The detector provides an analog output voltage signal suitable for processing in a computer data acquisition system, or for direct display on a dc voltmeter. The unit requires only + and – 15 VDC for operation at milliamp currents.
Features
- Compact (58mm length by 19mm diameter), while still maintaining adequate sensitivity and durability.
- Inexpensive.
- Low power consumption.
- Long life.
Performance
- There is a linear response to radiation as shown in the plot in fig. 1.
- Output is temperature dependent so a stable temperature is advisable

Fig. 1: The dependence of the output voltage on the amount of activity was examined by exposing the radiation detector to several fixed 137Cs calibration sources.
