Beamline System Design

D-Pace designs custom beamline systems that incorporate features intended to enhance both the reliability of operation and the ease of maintenance in a radiation environment.  When designing custom beamlines for our customers, we take into consideration the following individual customer requirements:

  • Particle type.
  • Range of particle kinetic energies.
  • Range of beam currents.
  • Maximum beam emittances in each phase-plane.
  • Number and length of primary lines.
  • Number and length of secondary lines.
  • Target spot size dimensions.
  • Permitted beam spills.
  • Nominal beam pipe diameter, flanging, and vacuum level.

Deliverables normally include:

  • Initial layouts and ion-optical design work tailored to individual client requirements.
  • Overall assembly drawing.
  • Engineering, design and drafting of various components that comprise the overall assembly.
  • A description of specifications for sub-system interfaces along with thoughts on factory testing, and user manuals.

Features

  • Meet customer requirements.
  • High beam transmission.
  • Use of low activation and low neutron producing materials.
  • Use of radiation resistant materials.
  • Use of industrial grade robust designs.
  • Minimized maintenance time in radiation areas.
  • Use of essential equipment only in radiation areas.

Applications

Generally cyclotron-based radioisotope production:

  • New beamline designs for accelerator manufacturers, and
  • New or “add-on” beamlines for existing accelerator owners.

D-Pace will manufacture beamline system designs if desired.
