D‑Pace Supports Growth of Canada’s Ion Source Innovation Ecosystem

Nelson, BC – June 9, 2026 – D‑Pace continues to play a key role in advancing Canada’s ion source innovation ecosystem through its ongoing support of the Selkirk College Ion‑source Research Centre (SIRC) and collaboration with Mitacs. A recent feature from Mitacs highlights how SIRC is bringing together a national network of academic and industry partners to accelerate the development of next‑generation ion source technologies with applications in medical isotopes, semiconductors, clean energy, and emerging quantum systems.

Through this collaborative model, SIRC integrates applied research, advanced manufacturing, and data-driven approaches to address growing demand for higher-performance accelerator technologies, while also strengthening Canada’s pipeline of highly qualified talent.

Mitacs plays a central role by funding internships and connecting industry partners - such as D‑Pace—with students and researchers, enabling real-world research projects and helping move innovations toward commercialization. This aligns with Mitacs’ broader mission to drive industry–academic collaboration, deploy skilled talent, and build innovation capacity to enhance Canada’s global competitiveness.

D‑Pace’s long-standing partnership with Selkirk College has been instrumental in establishing and growing SIRC, contributing both technical expertise and industry perspective to ensure research outcomes remain aligned with market needs. Together, these partnerships are helping position Canada - particularly the West Kootenay region - as an emerging hub for ion source research, advanced manufacturing, and accelerator-based technologies.
