Working with guidance from experienced engineers, this role applies solid engineering fundamentals to varied assignments, coordinates assigned project activities and develops practical experience across the product lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop creative, practical solutions through mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and validation.
  • Work with our multi-disciplinary engineering and physics team to bring ideas into customer facing products.
  • Contribute to customer and internal projects involving D-Pace products, custom ion source assemblies, and systems, including beam transport systems, magnets, vacuum systems, cooling assemblies, and beam diagnostic devices.
  • Complete mechanical and electromechanical design work using principles of mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials.
  • Develop and maintain 3D models, shop drawings, bills of materials, design notes, calculations, and supporting technical documentation using established methods and standards.
  • Coordinate assigned work for smaller projects or defined portions of larger projects, including schedules, parts, vendors, documentation, testing, packaging, shipping, and installation.
  • Support product development and builds through hands-on assembly, testing, troubleshooting, investigation, and evaluation of prototypes and products.
  • Work with suppliers to obtain parts and assemblies that meet quality, schedule, and cost expectations, and identify risks or issues when they arise.
  • Provide professional customer support remotely and on-site, resolve routine issues independently, and seek guidance when appropriate.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, organized, and traceable design control, product, testing, investigation, and research documentation.
  • Participate in engineering reviews, redline and verify design documents, and incorporate feedback to strengthen technical quality and consistency.
  • Identify and implement improvements to products, manufacturing methods, tools, fixtures, workflows, safety, reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Build practical knowledge of beam diagnostic devices, supports and alignment, magnets, utilities, commissioning, installation, vacuum systems, ion sources, and beamline systems through training and hands-on experience.
