DC XY Steering Magnet

The DC X-Y steering magnet provides steering in two directions, and is used to make small corrections to the beam if needed. It can be installed at a 45° angle, so that the diagonal dimension of the square beam pipe aligns with the horizontal and vertical axes. This creates a larger acceptance for the beam. Because of this rotated mounting, the two steering directions do not coincide with the vertical and horizontal planes.

Steering in only the horizontal or vertical planes, when the magnet is mounted at the 45° angle, is accomplished by driving both the X and Y steering functions of the magnet simultaneously. Only driving either the X or Y function will produce steering in a diagonal direction.

The DC X-Y steering magnet is air-cooled, and has two thermal-switches to provide an interlock signal in the event of over-heating. Each steering function direction is operated by its own bipolar power supply.

D-Pace’s standard DC-XY steering magnet for charged particle beams can be purchased as:

  1. X only magnet
  2. Y only magnet
  3. X and Y magnets
  4. with 304SS beamtube and flanges
  5. with power supplies (qty=2 for X and Y)
